The ‘Moto; of AWCD is to achieve all round development of women and children belonging to most disadvantaged economically weaker sections of society irrespective of their caste, creed or religion and help them to improve their living standards

Action for Women & Child Development (AWCD) is India’s one of the oldest and largest reputed non profit organization which have been working form last 28 years in Women Empowerment, Education, Health and Hygiene, Family Welfare and Nutrition to small/marginal farmers and landless people to slum dwellers. During the crucial period of its infancy, the AWCD has made its presence felt in the areas of Sustainable Resources, Environment, women and Child Welfare, Health & Family Welfare Education, and extension services and have an outreach upto the grass root levels.

AWCD considered to pioneer as it was the first organization in India which initiated various micro finance related activities in the state. AWCD with Supportive organization Action for Green Earth started first Self Help Group (SHGs) Micro finance model in Rural and Urban communities in year 1994.


The AWCD is functioning with the following aims and objectives:
  • To create awareness among the women of economically weaker sections belonging to families of small and marginal farmers for adopting and to implement appropriate technology for home as well as farm management.
  • To promote renewable energy sources for agro-production and eco-management among the women engaged with such activities.
  • To provide assistance to destitute disabled and handicapped women & children for upliftment of their socio-economic status.
  • To start community development projects in the areas of public health, animal husbandry, agriculture, village and cottage industry, rural/tribal development through extension of appropriate technology, Non-formal education etc.
  • To run school/hostel for vocational education to the children particularly girls of tribal and rural poor’s.
  • Environmental and sanitation awareness development camps, clubs in rural/tribal areas.To conduct surveys for evaluation of the present status and to assess future potentiality of women of weaker sections to develop/improve work culture among them.
  • To promote appropriate technology for saving rural women from drudgery
  • To establish old age homes for women.
  • To organize AIDS awareness camps in urban slums, rural and tribal areas.
  • To undertake adult literacy programmes in rural/tribal areas
  • To run education programme for handicapped children and women
  • To run a school for deaf and dumb.
  • To assist voluntary agencies in finding proper technical manpower and to foster link between communities, people, public bodies and voluntary agencies through developmental activities.
  • To organize national and regional Conferences, seminars, technical workshops/training programmes for the development of women and children.
  • To organize Mahila Mandals, vocational training programmes for women and run creache/balwaries/day care centres for children.
  • To establish Primary Health Centre for Family Welfare programme, Mother and Child Health programme in rural/tribal areas.
  •  To undertake research studies on prevalent socio-economic problems, prepare and implement action projects and provide consultancy on matters of programme management.


Keeping in line with its objectives defined above, the AWCD is adequately prepared to undertake the activities all over India. The main focus, however, will be primarily on the all-round development of women & children. The field of activities are viz, Women empowerment, Physical and mentally harassment of women , Education, Agriculture, Health & Family Welfare, Nutrition, Environment and Sanitation, Rural Industry, Animal Husbandry, Renewable Energy Sources, Farm Management, Women Employment other Socio-economic and Developmental issues etc.

At initial phase AWCD activities are limited to the following locations such as urban slums of West Delhi, Shamli Block in Muzaffarnagar district and Baraut block in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. At current scenario AWCD is proudly working in more than 10 states of India.


The organization has adequate and experienced regular manpower drawn from various sources tent carry out time constrained assignments of AWCD properly and efficiently. The man power represents important streams including Education, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Medicine, Environment, Rural Development, Management etc.

In addition services of advisors / consultants are easily available to AWCD for different assignments as per the need and specialization required.


ACTION FOR WOMEN & CHILD DEVELOPMENT (AWCD) has its own office in New Delhi equipped with necessary and adequate facilities.

AWCD has opened its camp office in Baraut Block of Meerut District in U.P. and has established good rapport with the local populace at grass – root level.

AWCD is also affiliated to Action For Green Earth (AGE), a well-known non-Governmental organization which has made its presence well known particularly in the areas of health and Family Welfare, and Environment and Agricultural Management.


  • Conducted skill development programmes in tailoring and embroidery for women.
  • Organize a programme on mushroom cultivation at house hold level and cottage industry scale.
  • Provided pre and post-harvest technologies including storage of grains to farm women in rural areas.
  • Motivation camps / programmes for promotion of kitchen garden.
  • Motivation of women volunteers for cleanup Delhi programme.
